Maggie Vandenberg, DMV, DACVIM (Neurology)

Dr. VandenbergDr. Vandenberg, originally from Maine, returns to New England from
Affiliated Veterinary Specialists in Maitland, Florida where she completed her neurology residency and completing her board certification in June. It was her small animal internship at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital that was pivotal in her decision to become a veterinary neurologist. Although her favorite band is not REM and she never belonged to the glia club, she found that just working with the neurology service was far more interesting than any of the other disciplines that she spent time with.

The cases were challenging and the surgeries rewarding to her. She relished the close bonds that would form with both her clients and their animals. To Maggie, neurology allows her the opportunity to fully utilize her veterinary knowledge in other areas such as internal medicine, critical care medicine, radiology, and surgery. Over the years, she has developed an extensive foundation in medical neurology and neurosurgery combined with additional experience with the basic care and needs of a diverse population of neurological patients. Her additional skills and accomplishments include:

  • Neurosurgery (laminectomies, atlanto-axial subluxations, tumors)
  • Seizure Control particularly difficult patients
  • Neuromuscular disease management
  • Myelography
  • Electrodiagnostics—EMG, NCV, BAER
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Computed Tomography
  • Cerebrospinal fluid collection and analysis

Dr. Vandenberg’s specialty interests include neurosurgery, magnetic resonance imaging, movement disorders, and radiation therapy for brain tumor treatment. She will no doubt compliment our oncology service as well as surgery! In her time away from the clinic, and we hope she will have that, she enjoys staying active and spending time with her friends and family. She ran competitively in college for the University of Maine and it continues to be one of her favorite past times. As she grew up on the Maine coast she has retained her lust for exploring the beaches and islands of New England.

Referring DVMs are encouraged to call with questions.  If you have any neurology cases that she can help you with over the phone, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time.
